Non-Fiction Editor – Flying Eye Books

JOB PURPOSE 

The Non-Fiction Editor’s purpose is to nurture, develop and deliver high quality illustrated children’s non-fiction books from acquisition to publication.

KEY TASKS

  • Working with authors & illustrators as well as editing and managing your own titles
  • Suggesting ideas for new projects
  • Building relationships with existing authors & illustrators
  • Creating schedules and ensuring your projects remain on schedule
  • Maintaining high editorial standard – a keen eye for copy editing, proof reading and fact checking will be essential.

INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS 

Be passionate and knowledgeable about children’s books. To communicate ideas and collaborate effectively with the design team and sales and marketing. You will possess the originality and flair to push boundaries.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to and working closely with the Publisher, you will be responsible for developing the Flying Eye list through building, fostering and maintaining close working relationships with existing and new authors & illustrators; generating new and interesting book publishing ideas; encouraging writers and illustrators to create new and original approaches to non-fiction; and working closely and effectively with design colleagues. 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

At least two years working on highly illustrated children’s non-fiction books. You will have a thorough understanding and appreciation of the children’s book marketplace. You will be able to demonstrate initiative and organisational skills.

As the children’s imprint of visual publishing house, Nobrow, Flying Eye Books was founded in 2013 to retain the same attention to detail in design and excellence in illustrated content as its parent publisher, but with a focus on the craft of children’s storytelling and non-fiction.
