To find out a little more about his work, we asked Matt the following questions:
What inspires your work?
A desire to write great books with great publishers. I loved reading from a very young age, and I want to ignite that feeling in children with my own writing. I want to make reading something children wantto do, not haveto do.
Tell us a bit about your writing/illustration process
For non-fiction I begin by forming a clear idea of what the contents of the book will be. This is done in close collaboration with the editor. When we have agreed, I do a lot of research into the chosen topics, refine it down to the most interesting and verifiable information, then set to work writing the text. My aim is to provide accurate, informative, engaging and entertaining text to go alongside the art and design of the book. Then the editor and I discuss the text, and agree on any changes that need doing. Repeat until text it perfect.
